In 2021, BLACKSHIP deployed Avid Media Composer for Video Editing within its Paris post-production laboratory, establishing an editorial backbone for episodic work including Amazon and Netflix series. The deployment is centered on workstation-based editing and ingest operations inside the 9th arrondissement facility, supporting a small 15 person media team and a VFX pole used for finishing tasks.
Avid Media Composer is used for rushes ingest, editing and editing assistance, image conformation for color grading, and editorial preparation for sound editing. The editorial environment also supports practical VFX workflows such as tracking, green screen overlay, composited effects like muzzle flash, and creation of end credits, reflecting typical Video Editing functional modules and capabilities.
Operational integration includes file-based handoffs between Avid Media Composer and compositing and grading tools, explicitly After Effects for VFX work and DaVinci Resolve for color grading and sound editing. These integrations are executed through editorial exchange and conform workflows that move timelines and media between the editing suite, the VFX pole, and grading rooms, preserving creative and technical continuity across post-production stages.
Governance and process changes are practice-oriented, driven by technical laboratory workflows where ingest, technical follow-up, and assembly coordination are performed by laboratory staff and interns. The 2022 internship experience documented at BLACKSHIP highlights hands-on use of Avid Media Composer to operationalize these workflows, delivering editorial readiness and technical conformity for downstream color and audio finishing.
