In 2020, Bolero International implemented R3 Corda Blockchain Platform to integrate its electronic Bill of Lading capabilities with a distributed, single-shared application model for trade finance. The R3 Corda Blockchain Platform deployment targeted the companys eBL Title Registry and aimed to provide cross-counterparty visibility for issuance and management of electronic bills of lading, aligning the Blockchain Platform with Bolero’s existing trade document operations.
The implementation centered on embedding Bolero’s eBL platform into Corda, configuring an eBL Title Registry and developing an oracle on Corda to enable carriers to connect with corporates and other supply chain participants. Functional capabilities included digital issuance and management of eBLs, title transfer workflows that record endorsement and verification on the ledger, and a shared-application approach that reduces reliance on isolated systems across counterparties.
Operational integrations and coverage extended to banks, carriers, corporates and supply chain partners involved in cross-border transactions, with documented participation from banks and trading counterparties in India, Belgium and the United States. The platform provided banks with ledger-level visibility into title transfers and Letter of Credit workflows, supporting end-to-end digitised trade transactions without reverting to paper documentation.
Governance and workflow changes formalised endorsement and verification flows on the distributed ledger, shifting title conveyance from paper processes to on-chain records and introducing interoperable document handling across participants. Reported outcomes from deployments included faster end-to-end transaction completion and improved ability for counterparties and banks to endorse and verify eBL title digitally, supporting Bolero International R3 Corda Blockchain Platform Blockchain Platform adoption for trade document digitisation.
