In 2018 BORICA Bulgaria implemented OpenWay Way4 to transform its core card issuing and acquiring operations in the Payment Processing category. The digital transformation project was announced in March 2018 and the platform entered production roughly within the following year, with intent to enable scalability and cross-border services expansion from its Bulgarian operations.
The OpenWay Way4 deployment encompassed real-time fraud prevention, e-commerce payment processing, mobile wallet support, and tokenization covering payments, issuing, and acquiring flows. Configuration work focused on card lifecycle and provisioning, authorization and transaction switching, and rule-based fraud engines, reflecting Payment Processing functional workflows for issuing and acquiring.
Architecturally the implementation aligned with a centralized transaction processing model, exposing integration points for merchant acquiring and e-commerce channels, token vaulting and authorization routing, while supporting real-time transaction decisioning and token-based wallet transactions. OpenWay Way4 was positioned to consolidate issuing and acquiring control and to automate tokenization and mobile wallet interactions as part of the core platform.
Operational governance and process restructuring accompanied the rollout, centralizing transaction monitoring and fraud rules management and sequencing production cutover across issuing and acquiring operations. The program was explicitly intended to enable scalability and cross-border services expansion, with the supplier OpenWay and the OpenWay Way4 platform delivering the Payment Processing capabilities brought into production within the following year.
