About the Customer
The British Medical Association (BMA) is the professional association and registered trade union for doctors in the United Kingdom. The association does not regulate or certify doctors, a responsibility which lies with the General Medical Council. The association’s headquarters are located in BMA House, Tavistock Square, London. Additionally, the association has national offices in Cardiff, Belfast, and Edinburgh, a European office in Brussels and a number of offices in English regions. The BMA has a range of representative and scientific committees and is recognized by National Health Service (NHS) employers as sole contract negotiators for doctors.
Scope and Challenges
Ian Turfrey, CIO, British Medical Association became part of BMA in 2016. One of his first priorities was to overhaul their dated IT infrastructure and transition much of it to Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform-as-a-service. He said the IT team used to be seen as only a support function that you phoned when something went wrong. In 2015 he started a digital transformation.
Outcome and Implications
BMA first implemented Microsoft Dynamics CRM in 2015, leaving behind Salesforce CRM as their legacy product. In 2016 the company implemented Microsoft Dynamics Nav as their new ERP solution and additionally Microsoft Office 365.
BMA implemented Office 365 to boost productivity by using integrated office applications, launched a comprehensive new intranet on Azure to improve communications and engagement, and encouraged people to use OneNote for co-authoring and co-editing to unlock the value of collaboration. On the other hand, the main achievements in 2016 included the rollout and training of CRM Dynamics Advanced Find; the rollout of Windows 10 and Office 2016, the rollout of Office 365 (SharePoint, OneDrive, Mail, Power BI), Skype for Business and Skype for Business Meeting Rooms to all 500 staff.
