In 2017 Buddle Findlay implemented Emburse Enterprise, an Expense Management application. Deployment centralized expense processing across the firm's Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch offices and consolidated claim submission, approval and AP intake within the finance function.
Emburse Enterprise was configured to replace manual, paper-based workflows with mobile-first expense capture and user self-service, including on-the-go receipt capture and email approvals to accelerate approvals. Functional capabilities implemented included automated approval routing, receipt-image capture and attachment handling, compliance validation against firm policy, and GL allocation workflows to prepare items for posting. The solution emphasized configurable approval chains and automated data extraction to eliminate manual line-item keying.
The implementation integrated with the firm's financial posting processes to pass validated expense lines and GL codes into downstream payables and reporting, reducing repetitive manual reconciliation work. Governance changes included automated approval workflows and status tracking for submitters and approvers, and a policy enforcement layer to reduce exceptions and return cycles. The firm reported expense report processing time reduced by 75 percent, a recurring weekly time saving of up to 24 hours, improved approver timeliness and morale, and plans to extend the platform to support invoice processing and centralized AP workflows.
