In 2016 CancerCare was using Blackbaud Fundware as its Non Profit ERP for accounting and finance. Blackbaud Fundware supported core accounting functions for the US finance organization including general ledger, accounts payable, transaction processing, and financial reporting.
The deployment emphasized standard Non Profit ERP capabilities such as general ledger configuration, chart of accounts management, period close workflows, and audit trail controls, with configuration to support nonprofit fund accounting and restricted funds reporting. Finance users accessed Fundware for transactional processing and month end close activities, while administrative controls governed role based access and audit logging. Automation in the system focused on posting routines and report generation to streamline routine reconciliations.
A subsequent engagement run by JMT Consulting centered on finance and accounting modernization for the US organization, and the project delivered faster reporting, reduced IT dependence, and self service financial insights. Governance work included redefining finance workflows and expanding self service reporting for the finance team. The CancerCare Blackbaud Fundware implementation therefore represents a core Non Profit ERP footprint that supported operational accounting while the organization pursued finance modernization.

In 2020, Cancer Care deployed the Conversica AVA.ai Platform on its public website, adopting a Chatbots and Conversational AI application to automate initial patient engagement and inbound inquiry handling. Conversica AVA.ai Platform is used as a web-embedded conversational assistant to capture visitor intent, initiate scripted and adaptive dialogues, and surface qualifying information for manual follow up by staff.
The deployment uses a cloud hosted Conversica AVA.ai Platform instance embedded in site pages, configured with conversational workflows, natural language understanding for intent detection, and automated follow up sequences to sustain outreach. Operational ownership is concentrated within the small internal communications and support team, with configuration governance focused on conversation templates, escalation triggers for human hand off, and monitoring of session logs and response patterns to manage conversational quality.
