In 2018, Careem implemented Oracle Cloud ERP as its ERP Financial application to centralize group financial reporting and month end close for the UAE headquarters and markets across the MENA region. The implementation was positioned to support consolidated financial statement preparation within a five working day reporting window, with the Accountant on the reporting team taking ownership of group consolidation workflows and IFRS accounting guidance.
The deployment covered core financial modules including group consolidation, fixed assets, bank reconciliations, intercompany accounting, loan and foreign exchange transaction posting, and month end closing processes. The team configured recurring group level postings for fund transfers and foreign exchange gain and loss, and owned accounting treatment updates and training related to IFRS 15 to standardize consolidated reporting practices.
Operational integration work included enhancements to Oracle FUSION bank and fixed asset module interfaces to reduce manual entry and error risk, and formalized bank statement upload and reconciliation processes in the ERP system. Oracle Cloud ERP and Oracle FUSION were used as the consolidation engine for monthly reporting, while the reporting team coordinated cross-market uploads and reconciliations across MENA markets to ensure completeness in the consolidated dataset.
Governance shifted toward centralized review and advisory by the group reporting team, who supervised fixed asset records, bank reconciliations, and intercompany calculations, and who delivered training to market teams to improve timely and accurate data entry. Explicit outcomes recorded during the period included identification and recall of double vendor payments totaling approximately USD 70,000, and group level support for the 2017 annual audit through preparation of schedules, related party loan calculations, and year end consolidated financial statements within Oracle Cloud ERP.
