In 2012 Carson Cars integrated the Cox Automotive Autotrader Marketplace Platform into its in-store trade in workflow, implementing an eCommerce solution focused on dealer-facing trade in and inventory acquisition processes in Washington state. The Cox Automotive Autotrader Marketplace Platform deployment targeted the Trade In Marketplace capability to generate instant cash offers and increase price transparency with customers at the point of sale.
The implementation centered on functional modules for instant cash offer generation, automated appraisal inputs, offer management and acceptance, and the downstream inventory acquisition workflow. Integration work was concentrated on embedding the Autotrader Marketplace experience into the dealer trade desk and sales workflows so offers could be delivered to customers during in-store appraisals and converted into retail inventory when accepted.
Operational scope covered frontline sales, trade desk personnel, and inventory acquisition processes at the dealership level, aligning the Cox Automotive Autotrader Marketplace Platform with existing in-store retail procedures. Governance changes included formalizing offer acceptance and intake steps into the dealer trade workflow, and adjusting front-line procedures to use instant offers as a standard part of customer conversations.
Carson Cars reported that the in-store integration of the Trade In Marketplace led to improved profits within about 90 days, indicating a rapid commercial outcome tied to the new trade in and inventory acquisition flow. The narrative reflects a focused eCommerce implementation for trade in operations rather than a broad enterprise replacement project.
