In 2021 Chaucer Group began collaborating with Moodys Analytics to develop an ESG Insurance Underwriting Solution implemented through Moodys Underwriting, recorded under the Insurance ERP category. Development work started in early 2021 and the solution formally launched in 2022, marking the deployment of ESG scoring into core underwriting workflows.
The implementation centered on an ESG Balanced Scorecard capability that quantifies counterparty performance across 158 ESG metrics. Functional capabilities embedded by Moodys Underwriting include a standardized scoring mechanism and scorecard presentation that feed underwriting decision points and support investment and operational reviews.
Operational coverage spans underwriting, investments and operations, with scores applied at the point of underwriting to influence risk selection and integrated into portfolio management oversight. The solution is positioned to provide consistent ESG inputs across those business functions, aligning underwriters and portfolio managers on counterparty ESG profiles.
Governance and rollout were run as a joint development and deployment effort with Moodys Analytics beginning in 2021 and culminating in a 2022 launch, enabling Chaucer to operationalize ESG within underwriting processes.
