| Oracle | Legacy | Oracle E-Business Suite | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2016 | 2017 |
In 2016, Ciena implemented Oracle E-Business Suite as an ERP Financial application to centralize core financial processing and link finance workflows into an API driven integration fabric. The Oracle E-Business Suite deployment was integrated into an API first architecture that aligned middleware, security and B2B capabilities with enterprise integration requirements.
Implementation work emphasized API led connectivity using MuleSoft Anypoint, with RAML based API definitions and process APIs hosted on the API platform. Teams developed RESTful web services to validate and normalize payloads and implemented security controls including client ID enforcement, OAuth 2.0 and JWT, along with dynamic client registration from Anypoint exchange to Okta. Complementary SOA work used Oracle SOA and BPEL 12c to deliver SOAP webservices, XSLT transformations and adapter based integrations, and Oracle B2B was configured for trading partner EDI.
Integrations connected Oracle E-Business Suite R12 to Salesforce, ServiceNow, Workday, Mavenlink, Adobe, YouTube, DocuSign, OTM-GTM, AWS S3 and Snowflake, providing canonical system APIs for finance, HR and sales workflows. Runtime architecture used Mule Cloudhub with VPC and VPN tunnel setups, and CI/CD pipelines leveraged Jenkins, Maven and GitHub to deploy artifacts to Cloudhub. System APIs and connectors were explicitly developed for Salesforce, DocuSign, Workday and database endpoints to ensure consistent integration touch points with Oracle E-Business Suite.
Governance and operational controls included Mule organization administration, formal code review processes, and SOA performance tuning with purge utilities on 12c. Testing coverage spanned end to end testing, user acceptance testing, performance testing, pre live and live testing to validate enterprise integrations and B2B flows. The program placed emphasis on API lifecycle controls and administrative workflows to maintain security and operational stability.

| Phenom | Legacy | PhenomPeople HRChatbot | Chatbots and Conversational AI | AI-Powered Application | n/a | 2021 | 2021 |
In 2021, Ciena deployed PhenomPeople HRChatbot to extend conversational hiring workflows on its external careers site, careers.ciena.com, aligning the implementation with the Chatbots and Conversational AI category. The deployment targeted talent acquisition and HR facing functions at Ciena, a networking systems and software company with approximately 8,657 employees headquartered in Hanover, MD.
The PhenomPeople HRChatbot implementation included an embedded conversational assistant on the career site, configured to handle candidate engagement use cases such as vacancy discovery, candidate routing, and event registration support, leveraging Phenom product capabilities for CRM and Events. The implementation reused standard Chatbots and Conversational AI patterns for dialogue orchestration, intent recognition, and handoff to structured processes where required.
Integrations were explicitly established with Ciena s Workday ATS to surface requisition and application status information, and the chatbot interfaced with Phenom CRM and Events modules to coordinate candidate touchpoints and recruiting events. The architecture consisted of a cloud delivered conversational layer embedded in the careers site, with API driven exchanges between the chatbot, Phenom platform modules, and Workday to maintain candidate record continuity.
Operational governance was owned by HR and Talent Acquisition teams, with process changes to route qualified inquiries from the chatbot into existing recruiting workflows and the ATS for applicant tracking and follow up. The implementation emphasized career site conversationalization and CRM linked event engagement, positioning PhenomPeople HRChatbot as the front line of candidate experience within Ciena s recruitment technology stack.
