In 2011 Clark Partington implemented Orion Law Financial Management as part of its Legal Practice Management environment, embedding the application into firmwide financial and practice workflows. The firm is a full-service law practice with 34 lawyers and roughly 150 employees, operating from two Northwest Florida offices in Pensacola and Destin, and the implementation targeted roughly 80 active PM users across those locations with a single centralized database in Pensacola.
The deployment combined Orion Financial Management with Orion Practice Management modules for time entry, accounting, contact management and matter-level practice workflows, and included configuration work to centralize contacts into a single firmwide directory. Infrastructure work included server upgrades, virtualization for redundancy and flexibility, expanded electronic storage to support paper-to-digital file conversion, and workstation memory upgrades to meet Orion performance recommendations.
Integrations were explicit and foundational to the implementation, Orion Law Financial Management was integrated with Worldox for document management and synchronized with Microsoft Exchange and Outlook for calendar and contact mobility. Remote users in the Destin office accessed the Pensacola database through Terminal Services, and Orion performed data upgrades and a weekend data conversion to preserve billing and transaction continuity during the cutover.
Rollout and governance followed staged training and phased enablement, beginning with contact management training, then Exchange Sync configuration, followed by focused group training for paralegals, legal assistants and attorneys. Orion worked directly with the firm and the firm’s outsourced IT consultants on installation and support, and the program included documented training phases and incremental feature adoption to improve user acceptance across different staff cohorts.
Reported outcomes from the implementation included increased time capture per attorney, centralized contact and document retrieval, improved file monitoring across attorneys, and a strengthened backup and disaster resilience posture to address hurricane risk. The firm cited improved productivity and an expectation of continued gains as additional Orion PM features are adopted.
