In 2016, Comune di Modena implemented PTV Visum in a Transportation Management engagement focused on municipal traffic modeling. The initial phase delivered training on PTV Visum 16 software, followed by an update of the road network offer graph and calibration of the origin destination matrix specifically for the western area of Modena. The project scope enabled simulation and analysis of the effects on the distribution of vehicular traffic flows across multiple road intervention scenarios, supporting scenario comparisons and planning decisions. Operational ownership rested with municipal transport planning and traffic modelling teams, who received hands on configuration and modeling capabilities. The implementation concentrated on network modeling and demand side configuration, including topology edits, link attribute tuning, and O/D matrix calibration workflows. PTV Visum was configured for scenario management and traffic assignment simulation, allowing iterative model runs to test alternative interventions and observe changes in vehicular flow distribution. Calibration workflows used observed travel demand inputs to align model outputs with field conditions and to refine assignment parameters. Training and knowledge transfer were prioritized so local staff could maintain the updated road offer graph, recalibrate O/D matrices, and execute scenario simulations independently. Deliverables included a calibrated PTV Visum model for the western area of Modena and simulation outputs and analyses that document distributional impacts of proposed road interventions on vehicular traffic flows.
