Oracle Legacy Oracle Application Express (APEX) Apps Development PaaS n/a 2022 2022 In 2022, Delphy migrated Oracle Application Express (APEX) development and Oracle Database workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as part of an Apps Development initiative that shifted product delivery from an on-premises customized Microsoft Windows environment to a cloud-hosted SaaS model. Oracle Application Express (APEX) was central to re-architecting customer-facing applications, and the implementation explicitly encompassed compute, storage, and networking workloads running on OCI alongside Oracle Database Cloud Service Standard Edition and OCI Data Science services. The implementation configured Oracle Application Express (APEX) as the primary apps development platform for Delphy’s crop-specific SaaS products, with development pipelines and application delivery workflows oriented around APEX-based UI and data access patterns. OCI Data Science was adopted to run Python-based simulations and model training, and those scripts were brought into production using the same development and operations processes that support APEX applications. Functional capabilities implemented therefore included rapid application development, database-backed application delivery, data science model execution, and operationalized deployment pipelines. Integrations were explicit and pragmatic, Oracle Application Express (APEX) applications read and wrote cultivation data to Oracle Database Cloud Service Standard Edition, and automated API connections from climate and weather data providers augmented the proprietary knowledge base. OCI became the single cloud platform for Delphy’s development, data analysis, and application hosting, consolidating previously dispersed workloads into a unified cloud architecture. Governance and operational change accompanied the technical deployment, Delphy restructured from a consultancy model to a software-centric organization and built an internal data science team to own model development and simulation work. The DOC supported the initial two month migration to OCI and continued to provide managed services, enabling Delphy staff to focus on application development and data analysis while using standardized APEX-driven release and productionization processes. Results reported by Delphy were explicit, OCI Data Science reduced simulation run times from hours to minutes, IT support expenditures were optimized by consolidating on a single cloud stack, and the company stated it achieved greater output with fewer people and lower capital investments. The deployment sustained Delphy’s global SaaS ambitions, supporting development for nine crop applications and ongoing enrichment of the cultivation knowledge base used by customers and consultants.
