In 2003, Despar Italia implemented Oracle Retail Distribution Management across four Italian distribution centers. The deployment targeted warehouse management capabilities within the Retail Management category to integrate retail and wholesale operations and improve distribution center efficiency.
Oracle Retail Distribution Management was configured to support core warehouse management workflows common to the Retail Management domain, including receiving and putaway processes, replenishment logic, pick and pack orchestration, and inventory visibility and reconciliation. Configuration emphasized pick validation and transaction-level controls to raise accuracy and enforce standardized picking procedures.
Wipro acted as the system integrator for the rollout, coordinating configuration, testing, and cutover across the four DCs in Italy. Operational coverage included distribution center operations, order fulfillment, and supply chain teams, aligning retail and wholesale flows under a unified warehouse management process.
Rollout governance formalized new operational procedures for warehouse operators and supervisors and instituted standardized inventory reconciliation and quality checks. According to published case coverage, the implementation reduced one warehouse shift worth of labor and improved pick accuracy to 99.8% from 80%.
