| Oracle | Legacy | Oracle Cloud ERP | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | PwC | 2019 | 2019 |
In 2019, Direct Line Group deployed Oracle Cloud ERP as part of a finance modernization program, alongside Oracle Cloud EPM. The ERP Financial initiative addressed an aging financial ledger environment, heavy manual processes and widespread spreadsheet usage that limited automation and integration with modern financial tooling.
Deployment was executed in two phases, phase one over seven months focusing on Oracle Cloud EPM and phase two over ten months delivering Oracle Cloud ERP. EPM components implemented included financial consolidation, balance sheet reconciliation and enterprise data management, providing a controlled consolidation and reconciliations foundation. ERP configuration delivered new ledgers and subledgers to support financial accounting and transactional financial operations such as claims payments, project accounting and asset accounting.
Direct Line Group worked with PwC as its implementation partner and adopted standard cloud services while adapting business processes to the cloud operational model. The technical approach centered on moving the system of record to Oracle Cloud, standardizing data models and embedding data integrity reconciliations within the ERP and EPM stacks. The project emphasized integration readiness with downstream financial processes and secure payment processing using the platform security and encryption capabilities.
Governance changes included standardizing process workflows across finance, tightening internal controls and formalizing reconciliation procedures within Oracle Cloud ERP and Oracle Cloud EPM. Operational scope covered core finance functions across the insurer, with the new ledgers and subledgers enabling centralized accounting governance and consistent balance sheet practices.
Outcomes stated by the program included enhanced internal controls and compliance, standardized processes and faster payment processing backed by updated security and encryption services. PwC highlighted that Oracle Cloud solutions enable continuous product investment and evolution, which supported Direct Line Group's decision to adopt Oracle Cloud ERP and Oracle Cloud EPM.

| Mercer | Legacy | Mercer Darwin Benefits (formerly Thomsons Online Benefits) | Benefits Administration | HCM | n/a | 2020 | 2020 |
In 2020 Direct Line Group implemented Mercer Darwin Benefits (formerly Thomsons Online Benefits) as its Benefits Administration platform to centralize benefits configuration and supplier interactions. The deployment was positioned to support HR and Procurement functions, with the Mercer Darwin Benefits application serving benefits enrollment, vendor linkage, and supplier budget tracking capabilities for the organization.
The implementation configured Mercer Darwin Benefits to manage standard benefits administration workflows, including benefits enrollment logic, eligibility rules, and vendor-managed benefit product catalogs. Configuration work included benefits enrollment automation and supplier-facing configuration to enable supplier budget monitoring and contractual terms management within the benefits lifecycle.
Integration scope explicitly included synchronization with Workday, with the HR Systems team coordinating data flows between Workday and Mercer Darwin Benefits to maintain employee eligibility, job and payroll attributes, and enrollment records. The solution also accommodated connections to third-party suppliers and benefit providers, with implementation activity focused on ensuring interfacing and data consistency across HR and supplier systems.
Governance and rollout were governed through structured procurement and supplier management processes, using Requests for Information and Requests for Proposal to gather requirements and set expectations for suppliers and Direct Line Group. Procurement activities included negotiating and drafting terms of engagement and tracking supplier budgets, aligning supplier contracts and procurement governance with the operational use of Mercer Darwin Benefits.
