In 2019 Eagle Produce, L.L.C implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as its core ERP Financial system, replacing Microsoft Dynamics NAV to centralize transactional accounting and month end close processes. The implementation supported the Corporate Controller and finance organization based in Scottsdale, Arizona, for a 1000 employee, North American produce shipper, aligning system tenancy with corporate finance and audit reporting responsibilities.
The deployment concentrated on Finance and Accounting modules, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Sales Order and Invoicing, Payroll processing, Fixed Asset management, job costing, and application of revenue recognition rules. Configuration work emphasized sub-ledger reconciliation, recurring and ad hoc journal workflows, month end close sequencing, and embedding debt covenant and borrowing base reporting into financial close routines.
Reporting and analytics were operationalized alongside the ERP through use of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central reporting feeds and related tooling referenced in internal requirements, specifically Power BI, PowerPivot, and SQL based extracts for management reporting. The system was used to coordinate banking and audit reporting, daily and weekly cash management outputs, and payroll reporting in collaboration with HR processes.
Governance and process responsibilities were formalized through the Controller function, which led policy and internal control implementation to ensure US GAAP compliance, reviewed account reconciliations, and validated design changes to meet accounting requirements. The Controller role also directed accounting staff across General Accounting, Sales Order/Invoicing, Credit and Collections, A/R, A/P, and Payroll, and coordinated external audit and banking reviews related to ERP data and controls.
Operationally the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central implementation became the authoritative system for transactional accounting and financial reporting, supporting ongoing maintenance of accounting policies, period close workflows, and cross functional interactions with Sales and Operations for job costing and profitability reporting. The Controller retained ownership for continued system governance, staff training, and aligning ERP configuration with audit and regulatory filing obligations.
