Microsoft Legacy Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) Analytics and BI Analytics and BI n/a 2012 2018
In 2012, First Tennessee bank implemented Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) as its Analytics and BI platform to centralize reporting and ETL workflows for managers and end users. The implementation ran on MS SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 as the primary processing and presentation layers. The implementation included SSIS packages built for incremental loading and slowly changing dimensions, and extensive SSRS report development including drill through reports, parameterized reports, tabular reports, matrix reports and linked reports. Developers created and formatted report layouts for end users, migrated application modules from VB 6.0 to VB.NET where required, and authored complex stored procedures and functions to support report logic and ETL transformations. Data integrations included automated T SQL, DTS, and BCP scripts to import from various ODBC sources into production SQL Server databases, batch scripts to FTP files to a DataStage server, and use of DataStage Manager for metadata definitions and import/export of DataStage jobs. Deployment practices delivered developed reports onto the server for consumption by managers and end users, and code artifacts such as stored procedures were versioned using Visual Source Safe 6.0. Operational governance emphasized database performance and reliability, with identification and optimization of slow running queries, stored procedure tuning, and index strategies using Cluster Index and Non Cluster index approaches. Monitoring and diagnostics were performed with SQL Profiler, Perfmon and DBArtisan, and the team established backup and recovery procedures plus automated jobs for database backup. Coordination with an offshore team included provision of work guidelines, design document reviews and code feedback to support ongoing operations. Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) supported scheduled reporting cadence by generating daily, weekly and monthly reports for managerial analysis, and the configuration of views, rules, defaults and data types provided a security and data integrity layer for reporting and analytical consumption within the bank.
