In 2010, Frankford Candy implemented Microsoft Dynamics RMS in a Retail Management deployment. The upgrade program encompassed three primary tasks: upgrading to the latest version of Microsoft Dynamics AX, integrating with new EDI software, and conducting a detailed functional test.
RSM executed the technical work including preparing the code base for compatibility and performing the upgrade, leveraging the solution's unique layered architecture to accelerate the process. The layered architecture enabled separation of customizations from core application code, allowing RSM to perform the upgrade quickly and in a fraction of the time it took to initially implement Microsoft Dynamics 3.0. Technical activities included code remediation, version compatibility testing, and configuration alignment with Retail Management workflows in Microsoft Dynamics RMS.
Integration efforts centered on new EDI software to support electronic trading partner interfaces and order flows, impacting order to cash and inventory reconciliation processes. Functional testing validated transactional processes across point of sale, order management, and fulfillment workflows consistent with Retail Management terminology. Test scripts were used to certify EDI document exchanges and transactional handling before production cutover.
Project governance followed the five phase Microsoft Dynamics Sure Step methodology, with RSM executing Assessment, Analysis and design, and Development phases to define costs, timelines, project plans and required changes. Frankford Candy and RSM collaborated on detailed designs and cost estimates, and RSM performed the upgrade and functional readiness activities. The engagement emphasized configuration control, structured testing cycles, and code base layer management to minimize disruption during rollout.
