In 2019, Friedman Feeney implemented LexisNexis PCLaw to manage core matter intake, billing, and document workflows. The deployment targeted Legal Practice Management functionality for a small professional services firm supporting three busy attorneys and a full time legal assistant, aligning matter creation, conflict checks, and calendaring with day to day operations.
LexisNexis PCLaw was configured to support matter and file setup, conflict checking at intake, monthly billing runs, expense posting, and document capture from daily mail. The firm used the billing and matter modules in parallel with Amicus for timekeeping and additional practice management tasks, and staff responsibilities included drafting attorney letters and calendar diary entry management.
The implementation included connections for pleadings and efiling on File & Serve and outbound bill submissions to external billing networks, specifically Legal eXchange, Bottomline Tech., CounselLink, TyMetrix, and Collaborati, reflecting a payments and ebilling integration pattern. Document retention processes routed scanned mail and pleadings to a shared server, and daily operational coverage centered on the Concord, New Hampshire office role handled by the legal assistant.
Governance incorporated an intake workflow with conflict checks, a monthly billing cadence executed in both PCLaw and Amicus, and an internal IT triage process where in house staff attempted computer remediation before escalating to external IT support. Staff training included peer led Amicus familiarization, and operational ownership emphasized consistent file setup, bill submission procedures, and server based document archiving.
