In 2017 Gary Platt Manufacturing implemented Epicor Vantage as its ERP Financial application. The implementation served a manufacturing operations footprint based in Reno, NV and was administered by an internal Data Management Lead from August 2017 through May 2022, with Epicor Vantage in active use through 2021 and SAP introduced after 2021.
The Epicor Vantage deployment focused on product configuration and manufacturing data management capabilities. Deliverables included a redesigned product configuration utility, executive and business partner dashboards built inside Epicor Vantage, and a suite of reports composed with MS Excel, SSRS, and Crystal Reports. Data configuration work ensured 100% accuracy for production order bill of materials, and end-user training and documentation were developed for product configuration, client customization, dashboard consumption, and reporting setup.
Architecture and integrations emphasized pragmatic, shop-floor visibility and lightweight custom systems. A custom LAMP architecture conveyor tracking system was designed, developed, and maintained to record and display production metrics with anywhere access, and custom Excel macro spreadsheets were created to connect directly with the ERP to pull transactional and production data. SolidWorks PDM was implemented to establish PLM workflows and file management for Engineering, and a barcode system was deployed in targeted warehouse areas to improve inventory accuracy.
Operational scope and governance covered manufacturing engineering, production, warehouse, sewing and cutting machine departments, and procurement invoice review for those departments. Process and governance work included formalized training, workflow documentation, and participation in Lean initiatives, with the team holding a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and running Kaizen events. Explicit outcomes recorded during the engagement included warehouse data accuracy improvement from 75% to 90% due to barcoding, conveyor tracking driven output per-unit productivity increases of over 80%, production fixture driven productivity gains of over 35%, and key cutting department metric improvements of over 60% from Kaizen activities.
