In 2020, Giant Eagle implemented Oracle Cloud ERP as part of a broader Oracle Retail and cloud initiative announced during the Q2 earnings announcement on December 10, 2020. The deployment is an ERP Financial initiative designed to support finance and operations for Giant Eagle, which operates more than 200 US supermarkets.
The implementation centers on Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning and Enterprise Performance Management, configured to provide real-time financial insight and to support consolidated sales and margin forecasting workflows. The retailer concurrently expanded programs using Oracle Retail Merchandising, Oracle Retail Store Inventory Operations Cloud Services, and Oracle Retail Advanced Science Engine to manage merchandising, inventory operations, and advanced analytics for assortment and demand forecasting.
Architecturally the solution leverages Oracle Cloud infrastructure and integrated application suites to connect back-office finance and retail operational systems. Integrations align Oracle Cloud ERP and EPM with the Oracle Retail suite to coordinate financial close, forecasting, merchandising replenishment, and store inventory operations across the store estate managing roughly 100,000 products and millions of customer transactions weekly.
Giant Eagle established governance through an internal ERP center of excellence led by its ERP COE and delivery leadership to coordinate configuration, rollout sequencing, and finance operational adoption. The governance model emphasized unifying financial reporting, embedding enterprise performance management into finance workflows, and standardizing forecasting and margin processes.
The program was driven by COVID-19 related demand surges and supply variability, and Giant Eagle expects Oracle Cloud ERP and the Oracle Retail solutions to help manage approximately 100,000 products and optimize millions of customer transactions each week while providing real-time finance and operations visibility.

Governance work centered on updating HR services and payroll operating procedures, instituting role based access controls within Workday HCM, and redefining payroll and absence approval workflows to reflect the new system of record. Governance and operational change included documenting runbooks in SharePoint, aligning on call procedures with automated job restart routines, and training support staff on new operational patterns and ticketing interactions. Operational ownership rested with Network and Infrastructure teams, and rollout activities were coordinated to respect nightly maintenance windows and store service continuity.
