In 2019 Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust contracted Altera Sunrise Acute Care in March 2019 and began implementation in July 2019, initiating a clinical wrap deployment to standardize nursing and clinical documentation across inpatient wards. The trust went live across adult inpatient wards in December 2019, completing a phased rollout from initial pilots to full ward coverage within the acute inpatient estate.
The deployment focused on clinical documentation modules, with inferred e-observations and order communications implemented as core functional capabilities of Altera Sunrise. Configuration concentrated on nursing workflows and point of care documentation, enabling structured clinical notes, routine vital signs capture and order communication pathways to support ward-based clinicians.
Operational scope covered adult inpatient wards across the trust and impacted nursing teams and ward clinicians, requiring clinical governance to define documentation standards and go-live support processes. Rollout emphasized rapid nursing documentation adoption through training and local governance, and early outcomes reported by the trust included rapid nursing documentation adoption and early improvements in patient flow and safety.
