In 2017 GreenChem deployed ORTEC Inventory Routing as its core Inventory Management application for bulk downstream distribution of AdBlue®. The implementation centralized planning and dispatch in a control tower in Bratislava, supporting roughly 30 sales representatives and planners who schedule and dispatch over 100 vehicles to customers across GreenChem’s multi-site production footprint that includes more than 45 production facilities in Europe and Brazil.
ORTEC Inventory Routing was configured to run advanced mathematical forecasting models and route optimization algorithms, leveraging machine learning components to calculate optimized safety stock, seasonal patterns, and the best forecasting model for each customer location. Functional modules implemented include demand forecasting and safety stock optimization, automatic delivery volume calculation, route scheduling and vehicle assignment, and plan creation workflows used day to day by planners and sales operations.
Operational integrations centered on the control tower orchestration and operational reporting, with planners and sales representatives using the ORTEC system to create and execute delivery plans and evaluate carrier performance. GreenChem paired ORTEC Inventory Routing with the ORTEC Big Data Portal to instrument KPIs, produce user-friendly dashboards, and share analytical reports across commercial and logistics teams, enabling continuous improvement and better evaluation of logistics service provider invoices.
Governance and rollout evolved after an initial two year period when GreenChem expanded the solution in 2019 to extend forecasting capabilities and reduce stock-outs. The implementation centralized planning workflows in the control tower, improved planner efficiency, and established a KPI-driven governance loop via the Big Data Portal. Explicit outcomes stated by GreenChem include a decrease of over 50% in stock-outs, fewer kilometers driven due to optimized routing, an expected 2.5% decrease in transport costs through better transport company agreements, and the ability to plan significantly increased AdBlue® volumes with the same workforce.
