In 2011 Health Support Services (HSS) WA implemented Oracle Business Process Management to centralize orchestration of invoice scanning, accounts payable approvals and P2P workflows across its finance and procurement functions. Oracle Business Process Management was positioned as the core Business Process Management platform to support automated BPEL orchestration, human tasks and integration with existing Oracle application stacks.
The implementation used Oracle SOA Suite 11g and JDeveloper 11g to design and deploy synchronous and asynchronous BPEL composites, XSD schema validation, XPATH and XSLT transformations, and Groovy and Java extensions embedded in BPEL where required. Functional capabilities delivered included human task forms and the Oracle BPM worklist for task processing, notification services for approvals and escalations to first and second level managers, and ADF based task UIs with task flow and session management.
Architecture and integrations were centered on invoice imaging and ERP workflow linkage, using Oracle IPM accelerator components, Oracle WebCenter UCM, Kofax for capture, and direct integration of SOA BPEL processes with Oracle ERP workflow and e-Business Suite events. Technical patterns included use of JCA adapters, Mediator components to update custom tables, deployment automation via ANT and OJDEPLOY to WebLogic, WLST scripting, management of MDS metadata in Subversion and database, and operational tuning such as message throttling into IPM and SOA purging routines.
Governance and process controls were implemented through BPM approvals, escalation email alerts, configurable flex fields mapped to SOA composites, and use of Oracle Virtual Directory for user modifications and security integration. Workflows were instrumented for lifecycle operations via the workflow API and ADF utilities including acquire, reassign, suspend, resume, escalate and complete BPM tasks, supporting structured approval routing and operational compliance across finance teams.
Delivered capabilities and documented achievements included implementation of the SOA suite, invoice scanning integration with Oracle AP, customization and extension of SOA composites for invoice processing, and end to end orchestration using Oracle Business Process Management as the Business Process Management platform. These capabilities were integrated with Oracle Financials modules such as AP, AR and P2P and with enterprise content management components to support automated invoice processing and approval workflows.
