In 2021 Hurst Doors implemented Epicor Kinetic as their Manufacturing ERP. The deployment replaced Sage 1000 and was driven by an internal project led by the IT Manager, with an IT team of three supporting approximately 170 employees at the Hull location in the United Kingdom.
Implementation scope centered on consolidating financial and budget management data and onboarding core manufacturing workflows into Epicor Kinetic, using the Epicor Kinetic application to centralize transactional processing and master data. Configuration work emphasized finance and budget control, production and shop floor control, and inventory and materials management consistent with a Manufacturing ERP deployment, while retaining and interfacing with bespoke .Net applications developed in house to supplement functionality.
The technical architecture leveraged a concentrated virtual infrastructure, Epicor Kinetic was provisioned into an environment where applications were consolidated onto VMware vSphere virtual machines after a program of host rationalization. Network and security components that supported the rollout included patched Citrix firewalls and Firepower appliances, encrypted endpoints, Active Directory cleanup and credential centralization into LastPass, and an updated ticketing system configured to automatically scan and track assets to support cutover and reconciliation.
Governance and operational readiness work preceded and ran in parallel with the Epicor Kinetic rollout, including formalized policies for password management, patching, development and IT equipment, penetration testing, updated third party contracts to include missing SLA clauses, and centralized management of IT contracts and budgets. The IT Manager acted as project manager for the Epicor Kinetic implementation, coordinating the infrastructure hardening, application consolidation and data migration activities to align the Manufacturing ERP deployment with the companys updated security and operational controls.
