In 2014 Hutchison Ports KICT implemented Huawei USG6370 Next Generation Firewalls as the primary perimeter security appliance, deploying Huawei USG6370 Next Generation Firewalls to manage email traffic, website traffic, SSL VPN, site to site VPN and general Internet traffic across its distribution network. The deployment is positioned within network and security operations to provide stateful and application aware inspection typical of the Next Generation Firewall category.
Configuration and operational responsibility covered firewall policy design and device administration, including creation and maintenance of ACL and NAT rules, routing configuration, HSRP for gateway redundancy, port channel and VPC aggregation, spanning tree and stack management for access layer stability, inter VLAN routing, SSL VPN and site to site VPN tunnels. The implementation included routine troubleshooting and configuration tasks aligned with Next Generation Firewall functional workflows, and emphasized SNMP v3 monitoring and port security controls.
The Huawei USG6370 environment integrated with core and access network infrastructure including Nexus 5K core switches, Cisco 2901 and 1900 series routers, and Cisco 2960x access switches, and with authentication and policy systems such as Cisco Secure ACS 5.8, Radius/TACACS and Active Directory for Wi‑Fi and device authentication. Security and infrastructure monitoring was combined with an Email Gateway Symantec SMG server for email traffic inspection, and with Milestone XProtect Professional Plus CCTV servers hosted as three clustered VMs, the latter recently migrated from an older version to a new release to preserve fail over and video surveillance continuity.
Operational scope covered administration and monitoring across network segments and WAN protocols, with functioning knowledge applied to HDLC and PPP links. Governance centered on standardizing firewall rule sets, centralized ACL and NAT configurations, and operational runbooks for VPN lifecycle and incident troubleshooting, aligning network operations and security processes without external implementation partner involvement.
