In 2017 Illes Foods integrated Aptean Ross ERP with the SG Systems Enterprise V5 Formula System to centralize batch-level traceability and formulation control. This work links Illes Foods, Aptean Ross ERP, and the Manufacturing ERP layer to production and materials functions at their primary blending facilities.
The Enterprise V5 Formula System was implemented to enforce formula-driven batching and weigh control, capturing ingredient traceability at the point of weigh. Bills of Materials, production schedules and inventory records are exchanged between the V5 Formula System and Aptean Ross ERP, while the V5 terminals regulate exact ingredient amounts to meet target weights and trigger real-time inventory downgrades.
Seven V5 Formula Systems were installed across production locations, each V5 terminal connected to three scales of differing manufacturers and capacities to control the weighing process. After each ingredient is weighed, labels are generated through mobile wireless network label printers to show ingredient lot number, name and job, and mixer-side mobile tablet PCs with integrated scanners capture that label information to enable batch validation for hand added and bagged ingredients. A single V5 Formula System was also installed at an offsite liquid blending facility and the V5 database is linked to the main site via VPN to provide a central point of data storage and retrieval.
Operational governance emphasizes a zero mistake culture and tighter materials handling controls, with the system enabling batch validation workflows at the mixer and label-driven lot capture for traceability. Joel Dennie, Director of Materials Handling, reported that overtime hours have fallen considerably and that operators increased throughput from about 50 batches per day to as many as 125 batches per day after the V5 Formula System and Aptean Ross ERP integration.
