In 2018, INW Manufacturing implemented OneStream XF to centralize consolidation, planning and reporting across a growing portfolio of manufacturing sites and business units. The deployment targeted the companywide finance function and was positioned as an EPM solution to address complex intercompany activity, multiple ERP landscapes and the need for standardized consolidated financials across entities acquired through both organic growth and transactions recommended by the PE sponsor.
The implementation configured OneStream XF with a bespoke Capital Expense model built by the system administrator, and a forecasting and budgeting application that combines detailed actuals and high level budgets. INW established two years of actuals for all entities in the system, a working budget framework that supports three months actual plus nine months forecast, and a staff planning module developed by Black Diamond Advisory to plan headcount at the GL account level. The team also leveraged the OneStream MarketPlace Excel Analysis End User Training solution to provide in-system training and is evaluating MarketPlace downloads for Task Manager and Account Reconciliations.
Operational integration initially relied on OneStream forms and flat file loads from disparate ERPs, reflecting the realities of different networks and firewalls across facilities and a high volume of intercompany inventory movements. INW is planning to deploy Direct Connect to source systems and is building a centralized data warehouse to sync ERP data, with the objective of enabling Day 1 reporting for future acquisitions. The environment has undergone at least two OneStream version updates, most recently to OneStream 5.3 with an observed one hour upgrade window.
Governance and rollout covered consolidated finance reporting across multiple manufacturing facilities, a supply chain division and a packaging company, unifying balance sheet, cash flow and CapEx reporting by division. The implementation moved budgeting from distributed Excel files into a single OneStream XF workspace so each entity submits standardized budget packets that feed consolidated reports used by the CEO and executive team. Black Diamond Advisory acted as the implementation partner and delivered functional modules including the staff planning capability.
Explicit outcomes reported by INW include a reduction in month end close from eight to ten days under the Excel process to seven days in the first month on OneStream XF and under five days by the third close. Budget consolidation time improved from two weeks to two hours as all entities enter budgets into one system, and users reported more consistent, drillable financial and operational reporting across entities.
