In 2017, Iqvia India implemented Oracle Essbase as a core Analytics and BI platform to centralize financial planning and reporting for its project finance and business unit finance functions. The deployment was anchored in Bengaluru, Karnataka and targeted Project Finance workflows including client billing, project accounting, budgeting and forecasting, variance analysis, project reporting, revenue recognition, and month and year end closure.
Oracle Essbase was configured to support multi-dimensional planning and reporting, using cube structures and calculation logic to enable Budgeting and Forecasting and variance analysis for senior management reporting. The implementation incorporated Oracle Smart View and Smart planning capabilities alongside Essbase to provide spreadsheet-based planning interfaces and report consumption, and retained Hyperion Essbase naming in the application stack for analytic calculation and aggregation.
Data integration and operational coverage leveraged existing transactional and reporting systems explicitly listed by the financial systems team, including Oracle ERP and PeopleSoft for transactional finance feeds, Epicor E4SE and EBO plus SQL extracts for project-level data, and Portal report writer for delivery. SharePoint administration was used for report distribution and the environment was supported by report writer administration and SQL-based data pipelines to populate Essbase cubes.
Governance and ongoing operations were managed by the internal Financial Systems team, responsibilities included project setup and updates in the ERP, day to day administration of Oracle Essbase, user profile arrangement, end user training and support, liaison with IT vendors, customized report creation, audit support, and people management. The configuration emphasized centralized application support and financial process ownership to sustain planning, reporting, and month end closure workflows within the Analytics and BI landscape.
