In 2020, Kandou implemented Altair Monitor as a License Monitoring solution to address rapid growth in engineering headcount and escalating EDA tool costs. Kandou is a Swiss manufacturer of wired connectivity silicon and IP, and by 2020 its engineering organization grew to 80 plus engineers operating across five offices in Europe, running hundreds of thousands of simulations across multiple concurrent projects.
The implementation of Altair Monitor focused on real time license monitoring and management capabilities, including usage visualization, plotting of consumption trends, and per user and per tool access tracking. Kandou used Altair Monitor to determine which EDA tools to add to shared pools and when to provision them during peak project phases, aligning license allocation with project priorities and tapeout schedules.
Altair Monitor was deployed alongside Altair Accelerator to enable license first scheduling, linking license visibility with high throughput job scheduling for packaging, test, and verification workloads. Operational coverage extended across Kandou engineering teams and multiple concurrent projects, allowing Accelerator to enforce job policies and priorities based on Monitor data and to capture downtime and underutilized license windows.
Governance changes focused on policy driven job prioritization and ongoing tuning of production license usage, with engineering leadership using Monitor dashboards to refine allocation rules. According to the customer story, Kandou improved product development velocity, achieved faster time to market, and reduced software expenses by optimizing software and workload management using Altair Monitor and complementary scheduling capabilities.
