In 2016 Food Banks Canada piloted SurveyMonkey Apply to manage its Capacity Boost grant, and Kapuskasing Food Bank participated as a local network member using the platform for grant intake. SurveyMonkey Apply was configured to support application intake forms, multi-stage review workflows and reporting capabilities consistent with Grant Management platforms, processing hundreds of applications through structured review queues. The implementation emphasized accessibility for local food banks, enabling standardized application fields, reviewer assignment and consolidated reporting for program administrators.
Operational coverage extended from the national program office down to local food banks in the network, with the platform deployed across multiple national grant programs after the pilot. The rollout moved from a single Capacity Boost program to seven national grant programs, maintaining centralized program templates while allowing local access and submission by individual food banks.
Governance and process changes focused on streamlining review and reporting, enabling program growth and operational scale across the network. The platform processed hundreds of applications and supported delivery of over $3.5M in grants in 2018, demonstrating its use for coordinated grant distribution within the Food Banks Canada network and for local beneficiaries such as Kapuskasing Food Bank.
