In 2002, Klement's Sausage implemented HarrisData ERP. Klement's Sausage, a United States consumer packaged goods manufacturer with approximately 350 employees, used HarrisData ERP within the ERP Financial category to consolidate core financial, inventory and production transactional processing.
The implementation included hands on configuration and ongoing support of HarrisData ERP alongside extensive custom application development. Over an 18 month period the team designed and developed more than 160 browser based applications using PHP, HTML, SQL, RPG, Javascript and Google charts to extend MRP functionality, implement manufacturing process control with automated notifications and accelerated messaging, track production waste, enable bar coded raw material licensing and tracing from receipt to customer, and provide real time production overview inquiries to support pull versus push flow.
Operational architecture tied HarrisData ERP to IBM i infrastructure management and external EDI channels. The program managed all aspects of the IBM i installation including monitoring, configuration, upgrades, security and disaster recovery, and supported EDI using Trusted Link software, Walmart Retail Link and Bizmanager to exchange transactional documents. The operational coverage focused on production, supply chain planning, shop floor control and finance, with direct participation in production meetings and SIOPs for workflow alignment.
Governance emphasized a gap analysis over an aged in house ERP and several purchased modules to prioritize development, and a company intranet was implemented to publish new applications and drive user adoption and mindset change. Cross functional teams and established SIOPs forums were used to embed new processes and encourage system use. The role leading these efforts was later eliminated as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
