In 2019, KT Corporation deployed GiGA Chain Blockchain as a Blockchain Platform to enable video content rights management and provenance tracking. The initiative was executed as a consortium with Gyeonggi-do and built on KT’s GiGA Chain Blockchain BaaS environment, aligning the company Application Category Business Function relationship around content protection for artists who used online concert and video distribution channels.
The implementation configured core functional capabilities to register performances on chain, record immutable provenance for each video asset, mint registered performances into non-fungible tokens, and record entitlement metadata required for downstream revenue distribution. The GiGA Chain Blockchain implementation emphasized on-chain asset registration, tokenization workflows, and automated entitlement records to support proof of ownership and traceability.
Operationally the solution integrated with Gyeonggi-do’s existing online concert service and the regional digital currency mechanisms such as the Gyeonggi Money application, leveraging KT’s prior role as an issuer of local digital currencies. The deployment used a BaaS delivery model to centralize ledger operations while interfacing with external digital storefronts and payment routing used by regional promotion programs.
Governance and rollout were structured as state-funded demonstrations, the project was selected as the 2021 Blockchain Leading Demonstration Project by Korea’s Ministry of Science, and the consortium planned staged demonstrations to validate provenance tracing and NFT-based profit distribution. The stated outcome of the GiGA Chain Blockchain deployment was to provide artists with verifiable ownership claims and a new channel for revenue distribution tied to registered video assets.
