OVHcloud Legacy OVHcloud Bare Metal Pod Application Hosting and Computing Services IaaS n/a 2024 2024
In 2024, L'Agence pour l'Informatique Financiere de l'Etat (AIFE) deployed OVHcloud Bare Metal Pod, an Application Hosting and Computing Services solution to host its Public Billing Portal. The deployment targets highly sensitive data and high traffic, and AIFE selected OVHcloud Bare Metal Pod to retain a sovereign environment combining high-performance dedicated servers with a SecNumCloud aligned architecture. OVHcloud Bare Metal Pod implements physical and software isolation by allocating servers and network equipment exclusively to the customer, with a control software instance hosted inside the customer’s dedicated physical space. The platform includes centralized Identity and Access Management, integration with the customer KMS for native SED disk encryption, centralized observability for logs and metrics, and a web management interface plus an OpenStack compliant API to automate infrastructure workflows with tools such as Terraform and Ansible. OVHcloud rewrote its control software to operate from minimal footprints starting at eight servers while planning scale up to 5,000 servers per project, and the commercial offering includes CloudStore for lifecycle deployment of products like VMware, Nutanix, OpenStack, MinIO, Ceph, MySQL, and PGSQL. Operational deployment options permit using one, two, or three OVHcloud datacenters in France simultaneously, with each datacenter running an independent Bare Metal Pod control software instance to ensure total separation, and encrypted inter-datacenter networking for geographic redundancy. Commercial configurations are explicit, ranging from eight servers in a half rack up to 480 servers across ten racks, delivered turnkey with hardware and software, and the platform can also be installed within customer data centers using extended control software modules to manage server and network lifecycles. Governance and qualification for SecNumCloud with ANSSI are integral to the implementation, with J0 status validated in September 2023 and J1 confirmed, a final audit scheduled at the end of 2024 and full qualification expected in early 2025. AIFE is the first institutional public customer of OVHcloud Bare Metal Pod, and OVHcloud is using the Bare Metal Pod as a milestone to port 40 ISO 27001 Public Cloud products to the SecNumCloud Public Cloud, while planning to open source the control software to support ecosystem collaboration.
