o9 Solutions Legacy o9 AI-powered Digital Brain Demand Forecasting and Planning SCM n/a 2024 2024
In 2024 LKQ Europe deployed o9 AI-powered Digital Brain for Demand Forecasting and Planning to operationalize outside-in supply chain planning concepts proven during Project Zebra. The implementation initiative linked the o9 AI-powered Digital Brain to LKQ Europe’s distribution footprint, informing demand sensing and inventory planning across its multi-country operations while building on prior pilot results in Germany. The deployment emphasized Demand Forecasting and Planning capabilities including outside-in demand and supply sensing, machine learning based predictive analytics, scenario planning, and bi-directional orchestration versus traditional multi-tier inventory optimization. The o9 AI-powered Digital Brain was configured with graph-based enterprise modeling, big data analytics, advanced algorithms for scenario planning, collaborative portals, and cloud-based delivery to support cross-functional planning workflows and forecast value add improvements. Operational integration centered on ingesting market-driven external signals such as inflation indicators and logistics signals for lead time predictability and variability, along with supplier and channel data to improve demand and supply alignment. The Project Zebra pilot context is explicit, in which Germany operations encompassing 180 branches and a central warehouse managing approximately 1.4 million SKUs informed solution design, and the broader LKQ Europe network of about 1,000 branches in over 20 countries provided the operational scope for scaling planning processes. Governance and process change were treated as a business implementation, leveraging a cross-functional team of data scientists, business leaders, and supply chain professionals to redefine orchestration levers and planning workflows. Outcomes from the Project Zebra research, used to guide the 2024 rollout, included a 17.3% improvement in Forecast Value Added and a reduction in the measured bullwhip effect from 48% to 37%, results that were captured using o9’s bi-directional simulation model and market-driven forecasting approach.
