In 2020 Ascena Retail Group implemented Oracle Cloud ERP as its ERP Financial platform to support parent company and operating unit finance processes during a corporate restructuring. The engagement focused on Oracle Cloud R13 operating unit design, because Ascena is a holding company for multiple apparel brands undergoing divestiture which directly impacts Oracle ERP and related IT applications.
The implementation encompassed core Oracle application modules, including Oracle Purchasing, Oracle Payables, Oracle Receivables, Inventory, AGIS, General Ledger, AME, and SLA. Oracle Cloud ERP configuration work targeted AP, GL, PO, and INV transactional flows and master data segregation, with design and development efforts to segregate and streamline data across Oracle Operating Units for two of the divested entities.
Operational scope covered the parent organization and eight child organizations, with explicit tasks to separate legal entities and ledgers and to extract AP, GL, PO, and INV data sets to be provided to divested entities. The program included decommissioning interfaces and reworking integrations so that interfaces no longer required by the divested operating units could be retired while core financial feeds remained intact for continuing entities.
An Ascena Oracle Functional Architect led impact analysis and the technical design to implement ledger separation, operating unit segregation, and data extraction processes. Governance and rollout work emphasized changes to parent and child organization structures within Oracle Cloud ERP and required coordinated technical development to maintain transactional integrity during legal entity separation.

In 2020 Ascena Retail Group implemented Sterling Background Check as its BackGround Screening solution. Ascena is a national specialty retailer operating ecommerce sites and over 1,200 stores with approximately 35,000 employees, and the Sterling Background Check deployment was positioned to support recruiting, onboarding and compliance workflows across corporate and field HR teams.
The implementation centered on pre employment screening capabilities and Background Check Administration, including management of Criminal History Questionnaires, employment verifications that require additional information, candidate status updates, and confirmation of background check completion for hiring managers. The Sterling Background Check application was referenced explicitly as the SME focal point within Associate Services Tier 2 for background processes and case documentation related to hiring and onboarding.
Integration work included a background check integration between Workday and Sterling, enabling exchange of candidate triggers and status updates between the applicant record in Workday and Sterling Background Check results. The implementation also incorporated operational coordination with an MSP team for follow up on conditional offers and criminal history questionnaires, and connections into HR case management workflows for unemployment and compliance tracking.
Operational coverage included Ascena Associate Services Tier 2, Field Talent Acquisition, HR business partners, and store and field leaders, with on site coordination at the corporate office in Duluth Minnesota for HR Associate Services. Governance practices were formalized in weekly calibration calls, escalation rules to Tier 2 and HRBPs, and documented case handling procedures for background related inquiries, employment verifications, and audit requests.
Sterling Background Check is used to support compliance, onboarding verification, talent acquisition processing, and related HR administrative functions such as I 9 follow up and employment documentation retrieval. The deployment emphasized integration with Workday, centralized background check administration within Associate Services, and formal escalation and documentation processes to maintain consistent hiring and compliance operations across Ascena.
