| Workday | Oracle E-Business Suite | Workday Financial Management | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2020 | 2020 |
In 2020, Manawa Energy, formerly Trustpower, implemented Workday Financial Management. The deployment replaced Oracle E-Business Suite with a cloud delivered SaaS financial solution in the ERP Financial category, driven by a company decision to pursue an integrated best-of-breed strategy rather than a single monolithic ERP.
The implementation focused on core financial modules typical of ERP Financial systems, including a unified general ledger, accounts payable, procurement workflow, and end user self-service for non finance stakeholders to interact with pay cycle information. Workday Financial Management was configured to reduce previous customization tendencies, with deliberate process redesign so human workflows aligned to the application rather than the reverse.
Workday Financial Management was introduced alongside existing operational systems, including an electricity billing system, a telco billing system, CRM, and a sales system, consistent with the organisation's best-of-breed architecture. Integrations were established to allow financial posting and procurement data to flow from billing and sales systems into Workday, preserving the specialised billing and customer layers while centralising financial accounting and reporting.
Governance treated go live as the start of a continuous improvement programme, with the IT team adopting a cadence of monitoring Workday updates to evaluate new functions for business applicability. The move addressed explicit issues with the previous on premises Oracle E Business Suite, which had limited self service and was nearing end of support, and the company standardised procurement processes across divisions to align with the new Workday Financial Management implementation.

| IBM | Legacy | IBM Maximo | Enterprise Asset Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2016 | 2016 |
In 2016 Manawa Energy implemented IBM Maximo as its Enterprise Asset Management platform. The deployment focused on generation asset management and field mobility, positioning IBM Maximo to support core asset and work order lifecycles across the generation organization.
IBM Maximo was configured to deliver core asset register and work management functionality with mobile enablement via EZMaxMobile and GIS feature integration. The implementation included a Maximo database migration and a targeted Maximo upgrade from 7.6.0.10 to 7.6.1.2, reflecting staged platform maintenance and release management practices.
Integrations were explicitly implemented with the company financial system through a Workday integration, and with GIS and hydrology applications used by generation operations. API based interfaces and integration points were validated as part of the program, and the Mercury Cutover activity was executed to migrate generation applications into the Maximo-supported operational landscape.
Governance and rollout followed agile delivery and testing practices, with sprint planning, daily standups, retrospectives, and show and tell sessions supporting iteration. Testing coverage reflected the implementation scope and included functional, integration, system, regression, migration and API QA, with an automation test framework developed for regression testing using Katalon Studio to support ongoing release validation.
