In 2021 Mayekawa Manufacturing implemented Hexagon Actran as part of its 3D Modeling capabilities within the Model-Based Development promotion office at the Moriya, Ibaraki site. The effort began alongside an R&D role spanning October 2021 to December 2022 that centralized acoustic simulation workflows and engineering model management for mechanical component design.
The implementation prioritized acoustic analysis methodology development using Hexagon Actran to evaluate mechanical and non-mechanical devices, supporting 3D CAD design of rotors, gears and compressor components used in experimentation. Actran was used as the principal acoustic modeling and analysis engine while the team also conducted computational fluid mechanics research in collaboration with Waseda University and Osaka Electrocommunication University to inform multidisciplinary simulation inputs.
Operational integration included extending the Model-Based Development local server website with database functionality to surface team updates and inventory status, creating a linked workflow between Actran simulation output, CAD models, and the MBD server. The scope of use covered R&D engineering, test laboratory planning for a tribology compressor test facility, and model review cycles used by the engineering team at the Moriya site.
Governance and process changes were operationalized through twice weekly engineering updates and reporting in English with occasional Japanese, and by embedding the Actran-driven acoustic methodology into the team’s model-based development cadence. Hexagon Actran and the MBD server became core components of Mayekawa Manufacturing 3D Modeling practices for acoustic and experimental simulation during the stated period.
