BlackLine Legacy BlackLine Cash Application AR Automation ERP Financial Management n/a 2017 2017
In 2017, McDermott Will & Emery implemented BlackLine Cash Application to centralize cash posting and reconciliation as part of its AR Automation efforts. The implementation was led by internal accounting resources, including an Accountant II who is documented as leading system implementation and system upgrades for BlackLine and Sage, aligning project revenue and cash workflows to firm accounting processes. The BlackLine Cash Application deployment focused on cash application and automated matching functionality typical of AR Automation, configured to support daily cash posting, unapplied cash resolution, and consolidated account reconciliations. Configuration work included rules-based payment matching and exception handling to reduce manual allocation work, and the full application name BlackLine Cash Application was used to unify cash application processing with month end close activities. Integrations were explicitly implemented with the firm financial system Sage to synchronize ledger accounts and to support intercompany billing across domestic and international offices. Operational coverage included accounting and finance teams responsible for project revenues, balance sheet reconciliations, and daily financial position reporting, with the BlackLine Cash Application feeding reconciled cash positions into established reporting and journal entry workflows. Governance and process changes accompanied the rollout, with formalized monthly reconciliations, workflow ownership for resolving reconciling items, and cross departmental collaboration to address accounting exceptions. The implementation supported audit preparation activities by improving the traceability of cash postings and reconciliation artifacts, and it embedded role based approvals and exception resolution steps into existing accounting processes.

Intapp Legacy IntApp Open Business Process Management ERP Services and Operations n/a 2018 2018
In 2018 McDermott Will & Emery implemented IntApp Open as a Business Process Management solution. The initiative was framed as a new installation of an ERP-facing site to manage law parties and case files and to standardize document management workflows across the firm. The IntApp Open deployment emphasized document management and ERP website administration, with configuration for parties and matter records, standardized data entry routines, and content organization. Database Administration resources executed site installation tasks, ingestion and correction of matter-level documents, and ongoing configuration adjustments to align system records with firm practice requirements. Operational ownership was concentrated within the firm IT and Database Administration teams, with a Database Administrator based in Chicago overseeing the new installation and early remediation work. Deployment activity included a focused content cleanup, with more than 1000 documents adjusted, added, and sorted within the first four months, supporting contract management and standard data entry processes. Governance changes centered on formalizing document handling and data entry procedures, and on assigning Database Administration oversight for ongoing configuration and process improvement. The implementation positioned IntApp Open as the central Business Process Management platform for parties and case file handling within the scoped operational areas.
