In 2020, McHale & Slavin implemented Tabs3 PracticeMaster to centralize docket management, standardize letters and forms, and tie critical submission deadlines to client matters. The deployment focused on using Tabs3 PracticeMaster as a Legal Practice Management application to consolidate previously siloed Access databases and provide a single source of matter and contact data for attorneys, paralegals, accounting, and support staff.
The implementation configured PracticeMaster document assembly and template workflows to enforce consistent correspondence, it enabled matter-centric contact types so correspondence can address nonbilling contacts, and it activated the PracticeMaster calendar to automatically generate patent and trademark deadlines. A customized Request for Funds area was built into PracticeMaster to capture anticipated costs against matter ID numbers and streamline application of client payments. The project also included configuration of task based billing procedures inside Tabs3 Billing to support large, multi matter invoices.
PracticeMaster was integrated tightly with Tabs3 Billing so client and matter records automatically exchanged data between billing and practice management, and the PracticeMaster calendar was synchronized with Microsoft Outlook for centralized time and leave tracking. Invoices for task based billing were exported and uploaded to client websites as part of the billing workflow, and Tabs3 billing routines were used to apply single payments across multiple matters to reduce manual posting. These integrations consolidated front office docketing, document production, and back office billing into a unified operational flow.
Legal Software Systems provided implementation support and a consultant worked directly with the firm to customize processes and import existing data into a familiar structure. Training and change management were executed to mirror prior user workflows from individual Access databases so attorneys and paralegals adapted to the new system more quickly. Governance updates included standardized template checkpoints during document assembly and a centralized calendar policy for documenting time and time off.
As stated by the firm, the combined Tabs3 PracticeMaster and Tabs3 Billing implementation eliminated duplicate entries, reduced input errors, ensured critical patent and trademark deadlines are visible in matter records, and automated portions of invoicing and payment application. The firm also gained faster visibility into requests for client funds and improved reporting for business management, while retaining vendor support for ongoing system adjustments.
