In 2013 Moen Incorporated implemented Workday HCM across its New Bern, North Carolina manufacturing site. Workday HCM was deployed as a Core HR solution to support HR operations for approximately 600 full time associates and 300 temporary associates at the New Bern plant which assembles roughly 40,000 faucets and 23,000 service kits and trim daily.
The Workday HCM deployment encompassed core HR functional modules including leave administration and ADA case management, compensation, performance management, terminations and onboarding workflows, and centralized HRIS recordkeeping. The rollout was led from the plant HR function with responsibilities for policy and procedure orientation, counseling and corrective action workflows, investigations and employee relations, and month end HR metrics maintenance across New Bern facilities in North America.
Workday HCM was introduced alongside other operational systems in the plant environment, while absence management was transitioned to Kronos following a move away from Nextrack, and a new proximity reader time capture system was deployed for clock in processes. Operational coordination included on site staffing collaboration with Adecco to provide training and rapid requisition fill, and ongoing weekly absence maintenance associated with the Kronos implementation.
Governance and process changes accompanied the technical rollout, with HR ownership of leave administration and ADA decision making, establishment of a buddy mentoring program, monthly Team Leader roundtable meetings with drafted agendas, and participation in STOP audits and safety subcommittees. The proximity reader system rollout delivered a stated reduction in badge wear and tear by shifting from a swiping motion to a scanning motion during clock in, and HR maintained plant wide communications as the main contributor to the Workday HCM roll out.
