Palo Alto Networks Legacy Palo Alto Networks TRAPS Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) CyberSecurity n/a 2018 2018
In 2018, National Taipei University of Technology deployed Palo Alto Networks TRAPS as its Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solution across the campus. The university manages a footprint of 15,000 devices, 13,000 students, 1,500 faculty members and more than 400 wireless access points, which framed the scale and operational requirements for the EDR rollout. The implementation combined Palo Alto Networks TRAPS advanced endpoint protection with the vendor's Next-Generation Firewall technology as part of the Next-Generation Security Platform, and included integration with WildFire cloud-based threat analysis and additional cloud-delivered security services. Hardware configuration specified two PA-7000 Series appliances with more than two expansion card versions, deployed to work in tandem with two existing PA-5050 systems to distribute inspection, enforcement and logging workloads. Functional coverage emphasized endpoint threat prevention, centralized endpoint policy enforcement and cloud-assisted threat analysis consistent with Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) capabilities. Architecturally the deployment positioned the PA-7000 Series and PA-5050 systems to provide combined network and endpoint enforcement, allowing Traps to feed telemetry into the broader security fabric. Operational scope covered campus IT and security operations teams responsible for student and faculty endpoints and networked wireless access points, aligning endpoint protection with firewall policy and cloud threat intelligence. Integrations focused on interoperable telemetry and policy coordination between endpoint agents, on-premises firewalls and WildFire threat analysis. Rollout followed a needs assessment conducted with Palo Alto Networks, which recommended the multi-appliance topology and expansion card configuration to address scalability and performance requirements. Governance centered on centralized security policy managed through the Next-Generation Security Platform, with IT and security operations accountable for configuration, policy updates and incident response workflows. The design emphasized platform-level orchestration of endpoint protection, network enforcement and cloud threat services to unify campus security operations under the Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) implementation.
