In 2013, Natixis Investment Managers evaluated Domo as part of a broader Analytics and BI strategy while maintaining an active Business Objects environment. The BI organization managed vendor assessments that included Qlikview, DOMO, Birst BI, SAS and Tableau, with the team contributing to the in-memory BI tool acquisition process and helping the firm converge on Tableau as a natural transition path from Business Objects.
The BI function was run with a three person team that established a formal Business Intelligence roadmap and collaborated closely with the data warehouse team to design a Kimball methodology based dimensional data model. The Kimball-style modeling work was scoped to serve finance, sales and marketing reporting needs, and the roadmap coordinated reporting standards, data model conformance and prioritized departmental requirements.
Operational work included a technical upgrade of the Business Objects infrastructure from 4.0 to 4.1 across more than 15 servers spanning production, QA and DEV. The upgrade was executed using Agile practices, with sprint planning, daily stand ups and active removal of team blockers, and accountability structures were put in place to drive a smooth, bug conscious roll out of the Business Objects environment.
Governance and business engagement were emphasized through direct requirement gathering with finance, sales and marketing stakeholders, and the BI lead used roadmap governance and executive expectation setting to align delivery. Domo appears in the historical evaluation set for Analytics and BI tooling, while Business Objects remained the operational reporting platform during the period covered by these activities.
