In 2015, NCS Group implemented Oracle E-Business Suite to support ERP Financial operations tied to its Singapore Customs Trading platform NTP and internal finance and support functions. The deployment was owned by the engineering and support division within the NTP DBA team, responsible for ensuring availability across a mix of on premise and cloud infrastructure.
The implementation included installation and configuration of Oracle Database Real Application Clusters and Oracle E-Business Suite as part of build team activities, with the team providing end to end support for Oracle EBS and Oracle RAC systems. Operational responsibilities covered scheduled maintenance windows, planned deployments and ad-hoc production requests, together with L1 and L2 database support activities.
Operational architecture incorporated Oracle database RAC 12c and 19c, Oracle applications 12.1.3 running on database 12c on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, deployed across Amazon Web Services and on premise datacenters. The environment also included MS SQL Server 2016 clusters on Windows, Oracle Grid Control 13c for monitoring, SSMS for SQL management, a Hitachi G400 virtual storage platform provisioned via Hitachi Storage Navigator, a Veritas NetBackup appliance, and an HP MSL6480 tape library for offsite archival.
Governance and workflow changes were centered on the NTP DBA team coordinating with application teams for code migrations, table refreshes and database cloning, and managing escalation paths for production incidents. The NTP DBA team also managed tape library logistics by coordinating with a third party logistics vendor to cycle tapes between datacenter and offsite storage, maintaining operational continuity for Oracle E-Business Suite ERP Financial support.
