In 2021 Network To Code integrated Dolthub, an AI Database, into its Nautobot-based network automation tooling. The implementation is documented as running Nautobot on a Dolt database and using Hosted Dolt for demos and production, supporting US and global deployments, and tying the Dolthub platform directly into network configuration workflows.
Integration work used the Nautobot Version Control plugin to connect Nautobot to Dolthub and Dolt storage, providing Git style branching, pull request review, diffs and one click rollbacks for network configuration data. These functional capabilities were configured to capture configuration object snapshots, track change histories, and support staged deployment workflows aligned with automated network change pipelines.
Operational coverage targeted network automation processes across US and global deployments, with Hosted Dolt used for demonstration environments and production Dolt instances for live configuration data persistence. The integration positioned Dolthub as the backing AI Database for Nautobot configuration objects, surfacing database level branching and diff semantics directly inside network change workflows.
Governance and workflow changes emphasized pull request based change review, diffs driven approvals and rollback procedures, enabling safer configuration changes and staged deployments. The project explicitly improved change review and data integrity for network automation, and the documentation captures the architecture and operational patterns for running Nautobot on Dolt and using Hosted Dolt in both demo and production contexts.
