The initial engagement ran from December 2013 to April 2014, focused on an ETL driven back pay calculation across a ten year history covering four distinct payroll systems and the Alesco historical project stream.
Work centered on the ETL code base and the final payroll calculation procedure, with UML based analysis used to understand existing logic and data flows. The final calculation procedure was refactored to remove redundancy, queries were optimized and targeted indexes were added, improvements that produced an explicit 100x speed improvement in the procedure. Support and bug fixing were provided for a data matching algorithm used to reconcile employee records across historical payroll sources.
Architecturally the effort was implemented as a batch ETL and calculation layer feeding Ascender Preceda payroll processing, with a dedicated historical project stream to isolate back pay computation and reconciliation work. The implementation touched payroll and HR operations across all employee populations, requiring precise handling of multi-source payroll inputs and preservation of historical data integrity.
Delivery emphasized specification driven design interpretation and on time implementation, with the team responsible for code enhancements, testing of the data matching workflow, and the Alesco historical stream development. Governance was operationalized through the payroll historical project stream, enabling controlled rollout of calculation fixes and reconciliation routines into the Ascender Preceda Core HR environment.
