In 2016, Next Retail implemented Next Total Platform as an in-house eCommerce deployment to provision end-to-end commerce capabilities across its online operations. The implementation supported the Next Online business unit, which is described as the largest fashion eCommerce business in the United Kingdom and has grown to over £3 billion in U.K. sales plus presence in 72 international markets, and placed platform ownership inside the company’s digital leadership responsible for sales, marketing and customer proposition development.
Next Total Platform includes core eCommerce functional modules such as storefront and website management, order management and inventory to warehouse linkage, fulfilment orchestration, content and creative management, and embedded data science, AI and analytics for optimisation. The platform was configured to support multichannel customer experience workflows and continuous optimisation, with explicit emphasis on digital marketing operations and personalised customer proposition development.
The deployment integrated marketing execution and measurement with executive Google and Facebook partnerships as part of the digital marketing stack, while operational coverage extended across sales, marketing, digital product, content, creative and warehouse operations. Next Total Platform is positioned as a Pay-as-you-go eCommerce business platform offering brands a full commerce stack from website through warehouse and related operations, reflecting a platform-as-a-service commercial model managed by Next’s internal teams.
Governance centered on a centralized Total Platform business unit responsible for platform product management, sales and marketing alignment, partnerships and hiring to scale the offering. The implementation emphasized process orchestration between digital marketing, analytics and operations teams and created a commercial pathway for third party brands to consume the Next Total Platform as a managed eCommerce service.
