NEC Corporation Legacy NEC EXPLANNER/Ai - Personnel Core HR HCM n/a 2014 2016 In 2014, Ocean Trans Japan implemented NEC EXPLANNER/Ai - Personnel to automate crew assignment and seafarer payroll. The deployment targeted maritime HR and payroll for approximately 120 seafarers in Japan and is recorded under the Core HR category. This implementation is centered on personnel processes specific to crewing and seafaring payroll rather than companywide HR for all employee cohorts. The NEC EXPLANNER/Ai - Personnel implementation focused on automated crew-rotation management, rule-based payroll calculation for seafarers, and crew assignment scheduling. Configurations encoded maritime-specific pay rules and rotation windows, enabling automated payroll runs and sequential assignment logic to support continuous crew coverage. The solution emphasized personnel administration, payroll processing, and scheduling automation as core functional capabilities. Operational scope covered Ocean Trans Japan’s crewing operations, HR administration, and payroll functions for maritime personnel within Japan. The project integrated these functional modules into the company’s crewing workflow, enabling HR and crewing teams to operate from a unified personnel system for seafarers. Deployment concentrated on operationalizing seafarer lifecycle processes from assignment through payroll settlement. Governance changes included centralizing payroll rules and formalizing crew scheduling workflows to reflect maritime rotation policies and payroll calculation requirements. The rollout targeted HR and payroll process automation for maritime personnel management and produced efficiency gains in crew scheduling and payroll processing as reported in the project notes. Ongoing operational ownership remained with Ocean Trans Japan’s HR and crewing departments to sustain automated personnel and payroll operations.
