In 2018, Piramal Glass implemented Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services (AI) as a Cognitive Computing solution. The deployment used Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services (AI) to introduce cloud-hosted cognitive capabilities for packaging inspection and automated content verification, aligning the Cognitive Computing application with quality assurance and production operations. Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services (AI) was configured to process image and label data from production feeds, applying vision and document analysis workloads to produce inference outputs consumed by downstream operational workflows.
Implementation scope focused on manufacturing and quality control functions across Piramal Glass production operations, with configuration of computer vision based defect detection and OCR driven label verification modules. Integrations were built between on-premises production data ingestion layers and Azure platform services to support model inference pipelines and operational monitoring, and governance emphasized model lifecycle management, data handling policies, and the incorporation of AI outputs into existing inspection workflows. This Piramal Glass Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services (AI) Cognitive Computing adoption formalized AI-driven inspection and verification capabilities within operational quality gates.

| Hyperledger | Legacy | Hyperledger Fabric | Blockchain Platform | Blockchain | n/a | 2021 | 2021 |
In 2021 Piramal Glass implemented Hyperledger Fabric as part of a Blockchain Platform initiative to digitize cross-border trade and supply chain transactions using dltledgers’ enterprise blockchain solution. The project was scoped as a first-phase pilot to determine the benefits of transaction digitization, to assess transparency and confidential data protection, and to establish whether blockchain could support sustainability reporting across its glass packaging supply chain.
The implementation centered on a supply chain traceability solution built on Hyperledger Fabric, configured to capture transactional events, create immutable audit trails, and support document transfer and authentication use cases envisioned for subsequent phases. Core capabilities implemented included transaction digitization, traceability and auditability, reduction of manual processes, and a plan to create a private digital network to partition sensitive data while maintaining shared visibility among participants.
Integration work explicitly connected the dltledgers platform based on Hyperledger Fabric to Piramal Glass’s existing SAP systems, enabling electronic transactions with multiple global suppliers and buyers and extending visibility into manufacturing processes. Operational coverage focused on the manufacturing supply chain for pharmaceutical, cosmetics and perfume containers, and impacted procurement, logistics and trade finance interactions between suppliers, buyers and Piramal’s manufacturing sites.
Governance and rollout followed a phased approach, with the first phase testing transparency, confidentiality controls and process speed, and the second phase targeting a private consortium network across supply chain participants. Reported outcomes from the initial phase included increased transparency and auditability, a reduction in manual processes, accelerated business processes, improved collaboration, and higher customer confidence, and the roadmap includes broader document authentication and sustainability tracking tied to the Blockchain Platform.
