In 2018 Public Bank Malaysia deployed IBM Cognos TM1 as an EPM solution to support corporate budgeting and financial reporting functions. The IBM Cognos TM1 implementation targeted the bank finance organization, centralizing annual budget and forecast processes and producing management reports and financial statements used for business review and external regulatory submission to Bank Negara Malaysia and RAM ratings.
Implementation work focused on the TM1 budget system and planning workflows, with configuration to support budget creation, forecasting cycles, month end closing activities, raising manual journal entries, and validation of automation vouchers. The deployment also supported calculation and reporting of Key Performance Indices for Hire Purchase centres and hubs, enabling standardized financial consolidation and management reporting across those business units.
The TM1 rollout ran in parallel with projects involving Kamakura FTP system maintenance and support, and project teams conducted User Acceptance Testing while communicating defects and requirements with vendors. Operational coverage centered on finance and reporting teams, with TM1 serving as the core EPM application for budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting workloads.
Governance emphasis included structured UAT, vendor issue tracking, and iterative enhancements to reduce process inefficiencies, with staff responsibilities extending to month end close tasks and ensuring timely and accurate compilation and submission of financial information to regulators. The implementation narrative reflects a finance-led EPM program using IBM Cognos TM1 to unify planning, reporting, and control processes within Public Bank Malaysia.
